Bubble Diagrams & Space Planning
This was the first really challenging concept that I introduced to the girls. Architects and engineers often use "bubble diagrams" to plan out their ideas, especially different rooms and spaces to work through where things should go. I was very impressed that the girls could grasp this advanced concept so quickly. I asked them to think about where they place the different rooms and to ask themselves as they plan, "does it make sense to put this room here? How do I get from space to space?" and so on. The girls put a lot of thought into their space planning and I was very happy with what they came up with. The most interesting part for me was to hear their reasoning for the decisions they made. Even if the ideas were a little far-fetched, I encouraged them to keep going as long as they could articulate and defend their choices.
